Deciding Between Breast Augmentation or Breast Lift or Both
Breast augmentation and Breast Lift are two popular plastic surgery procedures to enhance the appearance of breasts.
While augmentation surgery is designed to increase the size and volume of breasts, the breast lift procedure aims at lifting the breasts to a more youthful position with tighter and firmer breast profile.
Both breast augmentation and breast lift surgery is provided by Little Rock Arkansas cosmetic surgeon Dr. Michael Devlin.
Breasts that you consider too small, asymmetrical, or misshapen can rob you of your self-confidence. You know you want to make a change, but you may not know which procedure will help you make the change you want. When considering breast enhancement surgery, you need to determine if your breasts have any droop and how "perky" you want to be after surgery.
BREAST AUGMENTATION
Many women have always had breasts that they felt were too small. In other cases, pregnancy and weight loss have robbed them of the volume they used to have. Breast augmentation is the surgical placement of implants to increase the size and correct the shape of the breasts. Women have the choice between saline, silicone or the new "gummy bear” implants.
Implant placement is also an important factor in creating your new breast look. Your implants may have either under the muscle (subpectoral) or on top of the muscle(subglandular) depending on how much breast tissue you currently have. While breast Implants can correct a wide variety of breast issues, they do not correct significant breast sagging.
BREAST LIFT
Women choose breast lift surgery when they feel that their breasts have enough volume but have significant sagging, also known as, ptosis. Sagging breasts can age the body and cause women to feel unattractive. Breast lift surgery restores breasts with a more youthful shape and position. During this surgery, incisions are made around the nipple and areola to reposition them. Excess Tissue is removed and the breast tissue is lifted and reshaped into a more youthful appearance.
“Do I really need a breast lift?”
This is an extremely common question, and a very good one. A lot of breast augmentation patients, especially post-pregnancy moms, also want to improve the shape and position of their breasts. A breast lift can help with that in many cases. But that doesn’t necessarily mean you “need” a breast lift. There is no such thing as a textbook “perfect breast,” and decision to have a breast lift should not be based on another person’s ideal.
BREAST AUGMENTATION AND BREAST LIFT COMBINATION
Upper fullness of the breasts cannot be enhanced with breast lift alone. When the patient wants to “re-create” this fullness in the upper aspect, along with raised breasts, Dr. Michael Devlin may recommend a combination of breast augmentation and breast lift. Breast augmentation and breast lift surgery are two of the most commonly combined procedures that Dr. Devlin performs to enhance the natural beauty of the breast.
You will need to decide what look YOU will be happy with. If Breast Augmentation alone can provide the shape and appearance you will be happy with then there is usually no reason to also have a breast lift. Remember, the trade off of a "perkier " breast will be a scar.
If you have a significant amount of sagging to correct, then breast argumentation alone just may not look natural. Having a breast lift at the same time to eliminate the excess, sagging skin and allows the implant to be placed in the optimal position. The additional scarring is often worth it to create an aesthetically pleasing breast shape.
