Brow Lift Surgery FAQ's
Brow Lift Surgery Little Rock, AR Questions:
How much bruising, swelling, and pain is there?
There will be a small amount of bruising in the forehead region and possible even around the eyes and in the cheeks. The bruising will usually last 2 weeks but becomes less noticeable each day after surgery. There may be a small amount of pain after surgery but this is usually controlled with pain pills. By the third day, you may not need anything stronger than Tylenol. Lastly, you may experience some itching around your incision sites. This too will go away after a short time period.
Will I have a “surprised” look if I have a brow lift?
The goal of a brow lift is not to raise the brows as high as possible. I like to raise the brows to elevate the brows to a more youthful position. Anything more I believe looks unnatural. In women the position is generally just above the bony arch above the eyes with its highest point near the outside of the eye. The ideal brow position for a man is just at the bony arch above the eye with minimal to no arch in the brow.
Will I still look like “me” after Brow Lift Surgery?
Many of my patients report that when they return to their normal routine, their friends comment, “You look great. Are you getting more sleep?” or “You look less stressed and tired”. I do not want to change the way you look, only enhance it. My goals are natural looking results without looking overdone.
Can I have other cosmetic surgery procedures done at the same time as brow lift surgery?
Yes, you can, and often patients decide to have a Blepharoplasty (eyelid) at the same time if they have excess upper eyelid skin as well. Doing multiple procedures on the same day does not lengthen the recovery time, and will allow the patient to accomplish many goals with one surgery.
When can I shower?
You can shower once the second dressing is removed. Make sure that you pat dry the incisions well after the shower and apply the antibiotic ointment.
Risks and complications with Brow Lift Surgery ?
As with all types of surgery, there are potential risks associated with the brow lift. The risk of infection is very low and bleeding complications are quite rare provided that patients follow instructions to stop taking blood thinners for two weeks before surgery and stop smoking at least six weeks before surgery. I make sure to explain all risks and complications with you before your surgery
How long will I need to be off work following cosmetic brow lift surgery?
Usually, it is best to allow 7-10 days before returning to work following brow lift surgery.
What type of anesthesia is used?
Most brow lift’s are performed using oral sedation. Taking a combination of three or four little pills will put you in a “twilight sleep”. You will be able to respond to commands but in most cases patients do not have any memory of the surgery.
Will my head be shaved?
Absolutely not! With the technique that I use, bevel the incision that the hair will grow through. Your hair is carefully placed in tiny ponytails right before the procedure and no hair is shaved.
Will I have scars?
Any time you cut into the skin it will leave a scar. The endoscopic approach leaves a scar that is well hidden in your hair. The drawback to this approach is that it is not as long lasting as the hairline approach. The hairline approach is an incision at the top of your forehead at your hairline, it is beveled and hair will grow through the scar during the few weeks after surgery and make it very difficult to see.
At what age can a Brow lift be performed?
There is no average age of needing a Brow lift. Patients in their 20 have and older may have a Brow lift. Many choose to have a Brow lift to create a younger appearance. Many of our younger patients, who have chosen a Brow lift, were born with a heavy brow, which they felt made them look constantly tired or angry looking.
When can I get my hair cut or colored after a Brow lift surgery?
Many patients choose to have their hair colored right before the procedure. If you need to color you hair after the surgery , I recommend that you wait two weeks. Only use a hairdryer or curling iron on the lowest setting, as your scalp may be numb with an increased burn risk.
When will my stitches/staples come out?
The stitches will be removed five days after surgery. Staples also are used in the scalp because they are gentler on the hair follicles. The staples will be removed in ten to fourteen days depending on your healing.
