With male breast reduction, it's a lot more common than patients imagine. Gynecomastia is what is often referred to as, that's a medical term, but it affects more than one third of adult males. So the patients that we see are very self-conscious and they don't realize that it is as common as it is. We pretty much specialize in cosmetic surgery for men, especially with male breast reduction.
We do it a little bit differently than a lot of other surgeons do. Most of the time, we'll do excision of the breast tissue in conjunction with liposuction of the chest as well. But when we do this, we make our incisions most inconspicuous as possible. We make small little incisions around the areola and that's about it. It takes a little bit longer to do it that way, but it cosmetically has a much better result.
So in the end, you have men who want to be able to take off their shirt, and it's just as bad if you take off your shirt and you've got scars all over as it is if you have large breasts. So when we're done with them, they're able to take off their shirts and no one's going to be able to know that they've had surgery.
